No Soup For You (Almost)!

No matter how many times I come to Salt Lake City, I’m always confused by the roads.

W 200 S 900…? In theory, it’s a grid that is based strictly on North, South, East, West and numbers round to the nearest hundred, and should be one of the more simple concepts for a city layout. Still, when it comes time to listen to directions, I never seem to remember the four key ingredients.

So it was that our 2 mile bike ride from downtown to a favorite lunch spot of mine turned into a six mile ride of déjà vu all over again as we crossed over our route multiple times in search of some grub.

Our destination was Sugarhouse, a fun little part of Salt Lake and home to one of my favorite restaurants called “The Soup Kitchen.” We had built up so much an apetite during our confusing ride over and were so happy when we finally made it. (Note to self: Ryan gave me a GPS unit when I left Berkeley…)

Unfortunately, on this particular rainy afternoon at lunchtime, we were greeted by a line that was literally out the door and on to the sidewalk. Luckily, The Soup Kitchen staff keeps it moving pretty fast, and we were slurping down our lunch before we knew it.

Probably everyone’s favorite bonus to the trip is that you get a free breadstick, or two if you like, per every cup of soup you order. Not one to waste an opportunity (gotta get my fill until Snowboard season!) I went for the chicken noodle, broccoli and cheese and clam chowder. I was told there would be no math on this tour, but that also afforded me my fair share of breadsticks.

The soup was hot and delicious and well worth the misguided bike ride over. The message here, as always, is even on a B-100 biodiesel bus tour in the chilly Fall rain/snow, we’re living our 2 Mile Challenge every day! There’s really no excuse to getting out there and slowing your roll. It’ll bring you good adventures, if nothing else.

Maps help too…
