Like a band of gypsies…
Life on the road is pretty wild, I’d have to say. As the old Willie Nelson song goes, “seeing things that I may never see again…” Ain’t that the truth, William.
I’ve driven through Moscow, Idaho once in the past, but never had a chance to stop and check it out. In true 2 Mile Challenge fashion, you can’t just roll into town and go park the Bio-D fueled rig just anywhere. We wouldn’t want to anyway! What better way to see this famous college town than in that old-skool way on an Electra cruiser or a folding Dahon bike to cruise the streets with pure ease.
Zac, Cris and myself did just that on a recent brisk autumn night. We made our way downtown, enjoyed some great Mexican food and afterwards found our way over to a place called “John’s Alley.” (We apologize to the folks at John’s who quickly noted the error in us mistakingly calling it “Jeff’s Alley.” -Ed.)
John’s is one of those rare places these days that likes to stick with what works in a bar setting. We started off with a bit of billiards then moved on to basketball with a mini nerf ball, which proved more difficult than expected. After that it was Sopranos pinball and finally the grand finale of shuffleboard. You don’t see shuffleboard too often out there in the fine establishments of America, so when you do you’ve got to take full advantage. Of course we were oddly numbered so Devin, a student we’d befriended during a pool game, joined us for a game to 21. We had a great time and found Moscow to be a friendly and fun place to stop.
The following day we made some more friends from the University’s environmental club, doing their good work at the college level to help make this Earth a better place. Right on to that!
The three of us road warriors are big believers that one good turn deserves another, so we invited a bunch of them to join us back at John’s for another shot shuffleboard on Thursday or Friday night. We’ll be across the river in Pullman, but those neon lights and cheap Pabst are hard to resist. After all, with the tour winding down - we’ve got to take every moment to take in all the things we may never see again. Cheers, everyone.
-Mike.

The bar you account is currently called John’s Alley, or the ‘Alley Cat’ to locals. It is also referred to as “Johnny’s Juke Joint”. Most don’t call it Jeff’s Alley anymore, unless I am there. Huzzah!!

Yeah, ummm - when you’ve known John as long as we have, you call him “Jeff.”
We were just checking to make sure people were paying attention!
