Oh the Hills are Alive…..

The 2 Mile Challenge seems like an easy challenge-except if you live in SF—that elevates it to mach 10. I mapped my 2 Mile radius and I’m ‘challenged’ alright. I live on a hill so anyway I look at it, what goes down must come up…I know, I shouldn’t be complaining since I live in the most beautiful city. I would definitely be more apt to take the bike if I had this nice contraption they have developed in Norway…this would be a perfect addition to the hills of SF.

Ok, well back to the Challenge. I said I would take the challenge and when I make a commitment, I stick with it (well, most of the time). It makes sense… utilize your bike for those trips 2 miles or less—we all want to fight global warming and if my bike effort can make a difference, well game on!

In respect for the two mile challenge, I decided to head out on my bike to the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival where I know they will have bike parking. Next steps….Grab my helmet, grab my gloves head outside my apt. put down my gloves and helmet, walk down the side alley of my building to grab my bike..come back out a minute later and SHAZAM—someone stole my helmet and gloves. Ok, I live on a hill, on a quiet street so I’m looking up and down as this thief couldn’t have gone far…could it be a neighbor? I understand taking a nice helmet (although this was a few years old) but my gloves—come on people. After the disgust and disappointment wore off I had to continue with my plan to ride. I happened to have another helmet (lucky break) and hopped on my bike.

Overall, great day—easy ride to the park (2.2 Miles each way), bike parking, great music and a butt burner on the way back up the hill.

Lesson learned: keep possessions close at all time and continue to get out and enjoy the ride!
